Hi :) I’m Clara, a freelance illustrator and felt artist from Volterra, Italy.
I studied Psychology and Cultural Anthropology at university, but I never abandoned my passion for art. During university studies I attended an illustration course at NEMO Academy in Firenze and I’ve always collaborated with my parents’ etching workshop in Volterra making my personal projects. My secret dream slowly came true and now I work as illustrator and artisan.
My main focus are children's books: immersing myself in the imaginary of children is for me a way to relive and express all that freedom, warmth and wonder of my infancy. I mix digital and analog, I like imperfection and freshness in the line and I look for evocative colored atmospheres. I mainly use colored pencils, charcoals and watercolor.
I also love needle felting! Through my wool creations I like to connect with my images and my characters in a more tangible way.
If you would like to work with me just send me an email or give me a call, I’ll be happy to get in touch :)!
It has been an immense honor to be among Cornelia Funke’s Creative Guests in her Artist in Residence Program. Here’s my interview.
