Hi :) I’m Clara, a freelance illustrator and felt artist.
I’m originally from Volterra, a small Etruscan city in the heart of Tuscany. I now live not far away, in the Maremma countryside, near Grosseto, where my studio is.
I studied Psychology and Cultural Anthropology at university, but I have never stopped nurturing my passion for art. During my studies, I attended an illustration course at NEMO Academy in Florence, and I have always been involved in my parents’ etching workshop in Volterra, working on my personal projects.
Little by little, my secret dream came true: one year ago I illustrated my first children’s book, and for the past two years, I’ve been living off my creativity. Today, I’m also proud to run a small online shop where I share my creations and take great care of every detail with love.
I work with both digital and traditional techniques. I love expressive lines, soft imperfections and evocative atmospheres. I like experimenting with and using different techniques, choosing those that best suit each project.
I also love needle felting. Through my wool creations I like to connect with my images and my characters in a more tangible and intimate way.
If you would like to work with me just send me an email or give me a call, I’ll be happy to get in touch :)!
It has been an immense honor to be among Cornelia Funke’s Creative Guests in her Artist in Residence Program. Here’s my interview.
